Haugtussa

Haugtussa
Haugtussa

Haugtussa is Norwegian and means “Mountain Girl”, the story about the first love of this girl wrote the Norwegian writer Arne Garborg (1851-1924) and Edward Grieg set it into music in 1895.  A song cycle of eight songs for piano and voice. The language Nynorsk was developed by the linguist Ivar Aasen and combines many Norwegian dialects in itself. Both the lyrics and music of Haugtussa are painting pictures of Norwegian landscape in spring and interweave it with the personal story of the mysterious girl from the mountains.

Through her concert tours to Norway Ayleen Gerull got the opportunity to study this song cycle, surrounded by forests and mountains  with the Norwegian pianist Halvor Martins.
